Volunteer

If you chose to visit this page, you truly are a horse lover! There's no glory in volunteering to care for rescued animals — except how it makes you feel in your heart — so thank you so much for considering volunteering for the horses of Shilo's Inn.

Volunteers are encouraged to help us in a number of ways. The obvious, of course, is to come out to Shilo's Inn (by appointment only) and participate in the rehabilitation of rescued horses. The recovering animals need lots of attention, physical therapy, grooming and medicating, as well as basic equine care such as stall- and pasture-cleaning, bathing, etc.

Another direct way to volunteer for the horses is to foster one in your own home. We'll provide the financial support if you'll provide the shelter and care. In taking a horse from our grounds, you make room for a horse waiting rescue, languishing in a kill pen somewhere, or a stop on its way to slaughter. The ranch itself always welcomes maintenance and repair work, such as fence-mending, painting, gardening, landscaping, tree-watering, mowing, seeding, and construction of needed shelters, pathways, and shade shelters. If you specialize in farm work — of any kind — you are encouraged to pitch in! Your own tractor is a plus!

You may also help us by promoting the work we do — via posting our flyers at local feed and tack stores, soliciting donations of goods and services from equine supply and manufacturing companies, mailing our brochures to potential supporters, encouraging discounts for advertising and other promotional avenues, and arranging fund-raisers on our behalf.

Lastly, if you have a special trade — such as photography, graphic design, grant writing, etc. — we'd love to hear from you. Your talents are invaluable in our continuing quest for donations and grant support. If you are an equine veterinarian or farrier, please allow us to take advantage of your skills (your work is a tax-deductible donation).
